About the Opportunity

The City of Whyalla now has an exciting senior leadership opportunity for a Director - Corporate to join their team based in Whyalla, SA, on a full time, 4 year fixed term basis.

Reporting to the CEO and responsible for a team of 9+ direct reports, this role will see you primarily responsible for managing the strategic and operational activities of the Corporate Services Group - developing and promoting continual improvement within all sub-departments, and ensuring all functions and business plans are effectively managed.

Day-to-day this will include (but not be limited to):

  • Development of Council's corporate services direction and development of strategic plans;
  • Development of Council's corporate financial direction and business service strategies to ensure the organisation's long-term sustainability;
  • Coordinating and managing the preparation of the long-term financial plan and annual budget papers; and
  • Providing leadership, mentoring and supervision of Corporate Services staff including training and professional development.

To be considered for this position you will have tertiary qualifications within the finance or accounting field and have demonstrated high-level leadership experience leading a multi-disciplinary team. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate knowledge of financial governance budgeting and rating, statutory financial reporting, forward financial planning and cash flow management and investments. 

A CA/CPA and/or Local Government experience will be highly regarded, but is not mandatory.

As a highly strategic role, you must be able to demonstrate conceptual, analytical and critical thinking skills, having the ability to collaborate with and build strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Importantly, Council is looking for an innovative and engaging leader who will lead by example and inspire their people to achieve Council's strategic objectives, whilst still promoting and living by Council's core values.
